About Us

Our

Vision

We have come together as a group from different equine disciplines and experiences, with an interest in bringing the hunter jumper sport to the western slope of Colorado.  We believe that this exciting discipline can bring awareness to the beauty of the horse, attract folks from other cities and states, bringing exciting events and revenue to our beautiful city.

Our

Mission

Horses are a deep-rooted part of our history on the western slope. Our community has a rich history of farming, ranching, and Native American culture and horses are an integral part of that history. At RMHJA we want to educate people about our sport, horses, animal husbandry and agriculture.

Throughout our shows our crew will help our community understand the hunter jumper sport, specifics of each competition and equine behavior and care.

The hunter jumper sport is exciting to watch, drawing many folks to events and because of this it can generate economic benefits for our community. If you put on a solid event, people will travel from surrounding communities and states to compete and that benefits our western slope economically. More horses mean more ancillary folks needed such as veterinarians, farrier’s and trainers.

The sport is also a wonderful vehicle for employment. Not everyone wants to spend years in college and the equine industry has many opportunities for non-traditional aspirations.

Montrose offers a wide variety of restaurants museums, hotels, shops and outdoor attractions such as our gorgeous Black Canyon of the Gunnison. RMHJA aspires to bring new folks to our area to experience our great hospitality and enjoy the combining of horses, community, and culture.
